Although air travel usually springs to mind when people think of holidays abroad, you can also travel abroad via Turkey’s various ports. Travelling abroad by sea will add a unique experience to your holiday right from the start. If you’re tired of travelling on crowded and busy public transport, taking a ferry to the Greek Islands or Bulgaria could be the perfect option for you. 

Note: Prices are as of July 2026. We planned the holiday for 2 nights and 3 days with the minimum possible expense.

1. Burgas-Bulgaria (Visa Required)

Burgas, situated on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, offers an international experience with its fascinating history and the beaches and entertainment that come to the fore during the summer months. Young local and foreign visitors to Burgas particularly favour the days when events and festivals take place: the Spice Music Festival, the Burgas International Film Festival (BIFF) and the Sand Sculpture Festival stand out.

If you’re travelling during the summer months, you simply must visit Burgas Beach and Sarafova Beach. You can walk to the Sea Garden and Izgrev Park, both of which are well known for their proximity to the beaches. For history and art enthusiasts, the State Opera House, the Burgas Archaeological Museum and the Ethnographic Museum are places that will more than satisfy your appetite for culture.

How to Get to Burgas by Ferry?

With a valid Bulgarian visa or Schengen visa, you can enjoy a comfortable 5.5-hour journey on the Istanbul/Sarayburnu – Bulgaria/Burgas ferry.

Note: Under the 2025 summer timetable, services ran throughout the summer. As of July 2026, a definitive timetable for the Istanbul-Sarayburnu/Burgas-Bulgaria route has not yet been published.

2. Lesbos (Visa on Arrival)

Located in the northeastern Aegean Sea and part of Greece, the island of Lesbos welcomes visitors with its many beautiful coves, beaches, and rich history. The quiet and peaceful coves in the Gera and Kalloni bays—the most visited areas on Lesbos—offer a unique experience for lovers of the sea. In addition, the village of Eresos and the Church of Agios Isidoros are places where natural beauty and history come together.

Throughout history, the island of Mytilene has been under the rule of Thessaly, the Byzantine Empire, Genoa, and the Ottoman Empire. Among its historical and artistic sites, the most popular are Molivos Castle, Petra—famous for its stone houses—the Roman Aqueduct of Moria, consisting of 12 separate columns, and the fishing village of Skala Sykamineas—all of which delight tourists who love history and art.

3. Patmos Island (Visa on Arrival)

Patmos, a small island in the Aegean Sea located at the northernmost tip of the Dodecanese! Known as the place mentioned in the Book of Revelation in the Bible, Patmos is an important site for Christian culture.

The island of Patmos captivates tourists with its culture, mythology, and architecture. The Monastery of St. John and the Cave of the Apocalypse are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Known for its quiet, peaceful atmosphere and stunning architecture, the island’s main town, Hora, offers you the chance to get to know the local people up close, while you can even walk to Skala—Patmos’s most important bay—from anywhere on the island.

4.Rhodes Island (Visa on Arrival)

The largest of the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes exudes a medieval charm; on Rhodes, which has always been in the spotlight due to its historical architecture, the magnificent walls, medieval structures, mosques from the Ottoman period, and churches are wonderful places to understand the character of historic Rhodes.

After visiting the Grand Master’s Palace in the Old Town, you can soak up the medieval atmosphere along Knights’ Street. Don’t forget to visit the Süleyman and Recep Pasha Mosques, both within walking distance.

On the island of Rhodes, where the colors will leave you in awe, you might find yourself suddenly in the waters of Anthony Quinn Bay while getting lost in the labyrinthine streets of Lindos.

When you board the ferry to Rhodes Island departing from Muğla/Fethiye, your sea journey will take approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes.

5.Samos Island (Visa on Arrival)

Located east of the Aegean Sea, Samos is one of the islands closest to Turkey. Although Samos boasts crystal-clear blue waters, the island’s rich history can often take a back seat for many tourists.

The main port on the island of Samos, which has two ports, is the Port of Vathy. If you choose to disembark at the Port of Vathy, the Maritime-Folklore Museum and the Panagia Vronta Monastery are worth visiting. If you choose to disembark at the second port in Pythagorion, the Eupalinos Tunnel and the Pythagorion Archaeological Museum are popular attractions.

If you’d like to swim in the “crystal-clear” waters of Samos Island, you can choose from Potokaki Beach, Kerveli Beach, Psili Ammos Beach, Livadaki Beach, and the Tsamadou Beaches in the village of Kokkari.

From Aydın/Kuşadası, you can travel to the ports of Vathy and Pythagorion, while from İzmir/Seferihisar, you can travel only to the main port of Vathy.

6.Kos Island (Visa on Arrival)

The fact that the island of Kos is a treasure trove of ancient ruins attracts a great deal of interest from both local and foreign tourists. In particular, the Tree of Hippocrates, associated with Hippocrates, is one of the must-see attractions. Among the island’s most exquisite sights are the villages of Zia and Pyli, where you will experience the island’s culture and beauty in every street and on every beach you explore.

The Ancient Theatre of Kos, the Kos Archaeological Museum, Antimachia Castle and the Plaka Forest are among the historical attractions of the island of Kos.

9.Chios Island (Visa on Arrival)

Chios Island, which attracts attention due to its proximity to Izmir, fascinates every visitor with its natural beauty, rich history, and unique culinary culture. Mavra Volia Beach, which stands out from other beaches due to its black pebbles formed by an ancient volcanic eruption, as well as Agia Dynami Beach and Seychelles Beach, known for their crystal-clear waters, are among the most popular beaches on the island.
