Although air travel usually springs to mind when people think of holidays abroad, you can also travel abroad via Turkey’s various ports. Travelling abroad by sea will add a unique experience to your holiday right from the start. If you’re tired of travelling on crowded and busy public transport, taking a ferry to the Greek Islands or Bulgaria could be the perfect option for you. 

Note: Prices are as of July 2026. We planned the holiday for 2 nights and 3 days with the minimum possible expense.

1. Burgas-Bulgaria (Visa Required)

Burgas, situated on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, offers an international experience with its fascinating history and the beaches and entertainment that come to the fore during the summer months. Young local and foreign visitors to Burgas particularly favour the days when events and festivals take place: the Spice Music Festival, the Burgas International Film Festival (BIFF) and the Sand Sculpture Festival stand out.

If you’re travelling during the summer months, you simply must visit Burgas Beach and Sarafova Beach. You can walk to the Sea Garden and Izgrev Park, both of which are well known for their proximity to the beaches. For history and art enthusiasts, the State Opera House, the Burgas Archaeological Museum and the Ethnographic Museum are places that will more than satisfy your appetite for culture.

How to Get to Burgas by Ferry?

With a valid Bulgarian visa or Schengen visa, you can enjoy a comfortable 5.5-hour journey on the Istanbul/Sarayburnu – Bulgaria/Burgas ferry.

Note: Under the 2025 summer timetable, services ran throughout the summer. As of July 2026, a definitive timetable for the Istanbul-Sarayburnu/Burgas-Bulgaria route has not yet been published.

4.Rhodes Island (Visa on Arrival)

The largest of the Dodecanese Islands, Rhodes exudes a medieval charm; on Rhodes, which has always been in the spotlight due to its historical architecture, the magnificent walls, medieval structures, mosques from the Ottoman period, and churches are wonderful places to understand the character of historic Rhodes.

After visiting the Grand Master’s Palace in the Old Town, you can soak up the medieval atmosphere along Knights’ Street. Don’t forget to visit the Süleyman and Recep Pasha Mosques, both within walking distance.

The main port on the island of Samos, which has two ports, is the Port of Vathy. If you choose to disembark at the Port of Vathy, the Maritime-Folklore Museum and the Panagia Vronta Monastery are worth visiting. If you choose to disembark at the second port in Pythagorion, the Eupalinos Tunnel and the Pythagorion Archaeological Museum are popular attractions.

If you’d like to swim in the “crystal-clear” waters of Samos Island, you can choose from Potokaki Beach, Kerveli Beach, Psili Ammos Beach, Livadaki Beach, and the Tsamadou Beaches in the village of Kokkari.
